O futuro já está aqui, ele apenas não está distribuído igualitariamente.1
Por muitas vezes eu usei essa frase em conexão ao meu trabalho. Como designer, meu foco estava em inovação: novas mídias, novas possibilidades, novas formas de expressão, tudo novo.
Com o tempo, aprendi que o a oposto dessa afirmação também é verdadeiro:
O passado ainda está aqui, ele apenas não está distribuído igualitariamente.
Devemos conservar o passdo naturalmente, quando o novo não é melhor que ele.
A máquina é um rio e não uma estante – ela precisa de energia de fora, e se alimenta de novidade. Nesse contexto, o novo é considerado uma qualidade em si mesmo, e recompensado.

Ich habe diesen Satz oft in Zusammenhang mit meine Arbeit erwähnt. Als Designer war mein Fokus ganz auf Innovation: neue Medien, neue Möglichkeiten, neue Ausdrucksformen, neu Alles.
Mit der Zeit habe ich gelernt, dass das Gegenteil dieser Bestätigung auch wahr ist:
Die Vergangeheit ist noch da, sie ist nur nicht gleichmässig verteilt.
Man soll das Alte natürlich konservieren, wenn das Neue nicht besser ist.
Die Maschine ist ein Fluss und kein Regal – sie braucht Energie von Aussen, und lebt von Neuigkeit. In solchen Kontext, ist das Neusein an sich als Qualität betrachtet und belohnt.

The future is already here, it’s just not evenly distributed yet.1
I’ve often used this sentence in connection with my work. As a designer, I was focused on innovation: new media, new possibilities, new forms of expression, new everything.
With time, I’ve learned that the opposite of this statement is also true:
The past is still here, it’s just not evenly distributed yet.
We should conserve the old when the new is not better than it, naturally.
The machine is a river, not a shelf – it needs energy from the outside and lives off newness. In such a context, being new is by itself regarded as a quality, and rewarded.
